Tour of Litchfield Hills: Training on Some of Our Favorite Roads

Tour of Litchfield Hills: One of the highlights of Team Sixcycle-RK&O's 2012 season was participating in the Tour of Litchfield Hills where the team took home the Mayor's Cup for its fundraising efforts. Read more about this terrific event in our prior report: 2012 Tour of Litchfield Hills Report. Team Sixcycle-RK&O's Charlie Bird recently returned to the same roads that are featured in the Tour of Litchfield Hills for some fall base training - check out his report and pictures below.

For most of us riding is referred to as “training” beginning December 1 and ending sometime in early September. While training, we often overlook the unparalleled scenery surrounding us for hours on end. Instead, we focus on seemingly important data points like wattage or heart rate. October gives us a chance to ignore data away, pick our heads up, and look around.

A few weeks ago, I returned to northwest Connecticut (home of the Tour of the Litchfield Hills) and did some of the exact rides used as “training” for early spring races such as Battenkill and Labor Day weekend’s Green Mountain Stage Race. It was a magnificent time to return to the same roads we covered in the Tour of Litchfield Hills, with the leaves beginning to turn and colors transitioning to vibrant reds and oranges. Here are some of the sights I missed while I was distracted by training.
