The NYC Hour Record

Bike racing has taken us from hot summer crits in Chicago, to gravel adventures in Colorado, and most recently a hill climb in the New Hampshire mountains. But now, we’re attempting something entirely different and much closer to home. After several months of work, we’re excited to announce that our own Ben Brown will attempt to set a new NYC hour record at the Kissena velodrome.

The current Kissena hour record stands at 27.3 miles, equivalent to 110 laps of the velodrome. Set by NYC legend Ken Harris in 2008, Ben will aim to surpass this distance on September 25th at 6pm. He’s working closely with Jason from Affinity Cycles, who has graciously supplied the equipment necessary to make the attempt possible. And there is a whole afternoon of racing on tap before Ben’s record attempt goes off.

Want to support Ben as he takes on sixty minutes of suffering? We ask you to contribute to the ongoing fundraising efforts to help restore the Kissena velodrome via this GoFundMe page. As part of this project the legendary Kissena velodrome is not just getting repaved, but the track infrastructure will be upgraded with advanced scoring systems, a digital lap counter, and new sound equipment. This effort will help ensure that Kissena remains home to excellent youth programming and track races for years to come.
